Akwaaba!!

I am Alice Mills Mai; I go by Alice most of the time or Akos in my community. I am human above any role and expertise. I am a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC, LPCC-S, NCC); if you don’t know what those letters mean, don’t worry. It means I am licensed in two states (New York and Ohio) and a nationally certified counselor. I am a Ghanaian immigrant and a proud daughter of immigrants.

Additionally, I am a social entrepreneur, Ph.D. student, and consultant. I am the founder/clinical director of Centering Wholeness Counseling. Centering Wholeness Counseling is a conglomerate of two business entities, Centering Wholeness LLC (for profit) and Embracing Wholeness Community Care (nonprofit). Centering Wholeness Counseling offers convenient and culturally affirming mental wellness services to Black and Brown people. You can learn more about Centering Wholeness Counseling here

I am currently a Ph.D. student studying Counselor Education and Supervision. My research areas include workplace wellness, holistic wellness practice, anti-oppressive supervision practices, and incarceration.

I am committed to holistic healing practices and deeply understand the importance of an integrative approach to wellness. I am also passionate about reducing the stigma around mental health and seeking mental health services.

I draw on my experiences as a researcher, therapist, supervisor, and consultant to create affirming spaces that foster wholeness, accountability, and liberation where people can thrive, learn and grow.
